"The Birth of Mexico's Oil Industry" was curated by Marco Bracamontes, president
of the Houston-Tampico Sister City Association, from U.S. and British archives
and collections. After showing it in Austin in May in
conjunction with the Texas Land Office, the Sister City Association is now
bringing it to Mexico City for the first time.
The photographic history exhibit previously was shown in Houston in 2004, Dallas
in 2005 and Tampico, Mexico, in 2006.
Sponsoring the exhibit in Mexico City is the
Jackson School of
Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, Schlumberger, ExxonMobil
and Continental Airlines. Other benefactors of the organization are the Texas
Land Office, DeGolyer Library and Alfredo and Celina Brener.
The Houston-Tampico Sister City Association highlights the ties between the oil
and shipping industries on the Gulf of Mexico coast, engaging in a variety of
public education and goodwill activities. The
Jackson School of
Geosciences has been a leading academic institution in the oil industry for
decades.
